22 year-old woman experiencing hair loss- PLZ Help!?

y parents have lush thick black hair, and I did too up until a month ago. Everyone is telling me it's from stress but I'm not under a significant amount of stress. I noticed it when I was pulling my hair back in a pony tail and the thickness was almost half of what it typically is. I'm starting to get very concerned and obsessing over it. I don't have health insurance, so I can't see a dermatologist or hair specialist, but my school has a health center that I plan on going to. Any suggestions/ideas? Serious answers only please. I appreciate it!!22 year-old woman experiencing hair loss- PLZ Help!?
Okay, sweetheart, first off, even if you can't see a dermatologist as you don't have insurance, the school health center will have primary care doctors that can at least examine your scalp to determine the pattern of loss. Secondly, if this hair loss has occurred over the course of a month, you'd be well advised to have the family doctor at the health center or whoever the caretaker is... have them refer you to a dermatologist to ensure that there is not a serious underlying condition, or that if this is a manifestation of a systemic disorder, that the appropriate blood work and medication can be obtained.

Lastly, consider re-posting your question under Science%26gt;Medicine or under Healthcare%26gt;Skin. There are other doctors who frequent those forums who very well may be Dermatologists and can offer you a more sophisticated response.

I wish you well.22 year-old woman experiencing hair loss- PLZ Help!?
Have you had fever in the last few weeks? I had strep one time and had a 103 fever and a few weeks after experienced some significant hair loss. General anesthesia can do that too. Its temporary.

Also, do you have dry skin, dry eyes, brittle nails, and or constipation? You could have a thyroid condition.
